Archbishop Wojda at COMECE Plenary Assembly: There is no right to kill, but to protect life

1 tydzień temu

Life is the greatest gift of God and no one should be allowed to raise his hand against it. There is no right to kill, but to protect life – said Archbishop Tadeusz Wojda SAC, President of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, in his homily during Holy Mass in the Łomża Cathedral during the COMECE Plenary Assembly. The Eucharist was concelebrated by the bishops-delegates from the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Union, who are meeting in Łomża until 19 April.

In his homily, Archbishop Wojda asked what we should do to keep our faith alive and not weaken in us, „so that we can continually show it to others in our daily lives”. „Jesus gives us his Body in order to strengthen us in professing our faith and in order to send us out to proclaim that faith. A man of the Resurrection, a Christian who has received the gift of faith in the Risen Christ, is a Christian who must be courageous. He cannot hide, he cannot fail to proclaim the Gospel” – said the President of the Polish Episcopate.

The President of the Polish Bishops’ Conference pointed out that „this is why Jesus gathers us, why he gives us his Body as food”, „so that, strengthened by this food, we can proclaim the Gospel, which is so much needed today in our country, not only in Europe”. „Life is being attacked, the ‚morning-after’ pill is being introduced, perhaps euthanasia, and who knows what else. And yet life is God’s greatest gift and no one should be allowed to raise their hand against it” – he admitted. „There is no right to kill, but to protect life” – he stressed.

On the 20th anniversary of the enlargement of the European Union, the COMECE Plenary Assembly will listen to the voices of the Central and Eastern European countries, in light of the upcoming European elections. The Assembly will include three sessions that will focus on the process of integration of the European Union, its perception from the perspective of Central and Eastern Europe and future directions in the face of geopolitical challenges.

The Plenary Assembly is hosted by Bishop Janusz Stepnowski, Bishop of Łomża, Delegate of the Polish Bishops’ Conference for Contacts with the COMECE.
